REVIEW: IGK Smoke & Mirrors Conditioning Cleansing Oil

My hair type: Wavy, thick, color-treated

I have always wanted to find the perfect conditioning cleanser, or “co-wash”, or something like it. Basically, a cleanser that will do the job of both shampoo and conditioner without any harsh surfactants and without weighing down my hair.

So after reading Blush Suede’s review, I decided to try IGK’s conditioning cleansing oil — Smoke & Mirrors — because it seemed to fit all of my ideal parameters.

This is a gentle cleanser that is meant to actually replace your shampoo and conditioner (although you can incorporate it how you wish i.e. as a pre-wash).

It is a vegan product and is free of sulfates and parabens. It is made with coconut oil, almond oil, and panthenol (Vitamin B5).

As S&M is gentle and free of harsh surfactants, it does not lather.

So how does it clean?

As oil attracts oil, this is the basic principle behind how it washes your hair.

Upon first use of S&M, I fell in love.

I have long, thick hair, so I squeeze about two pumps in my hands and work it through my hair starting at the top and going down. I use a comb to help. Then rinse!

I find that 1 wash is usually enough for me, although I like to do 2 if my hair is in particularly rough shape for whatever reason.

After washing, my hair is soft and so shiny…without feeling greasy!!!! No greasy look, feel, and no sense of my hair being weighed down at all.

I’m very glad to have found the “Co-wash” of my dreams.

IGK’s Smoke & Mirror Conditioning Cleansing Oil is available at Sephora and is on sale at the IGK website.
