The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser Review

The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser (50ml) | $7.90 CAD

What it is: An oil/balm-like squalane cleanser that is good for dry and sensitive skin types. It will soon be released in a larger size.

Cruelty-free and vegan. Free of silicone, alcohol, paraben, and sulfates.

Composed primarily of squalane, which is an excellent conditioning factor. Other conditioning ingredients include glycerin and vitamin E.

A pretty fantastic composition with nothing harmful, as far as I can tell!

How does it work?

This a gentle but effective oil cleanser that is suited to sensitive and dry skin types. I don’t exactly find it moisturizing, but then I don’t really expect moisturizing action from cleansers; that said, it doesn’t strip away moisture or bother dry skin which is saying a lot.

Because it is so gentle, I recommend using it in the mornings and at night if you are wearing little to no makeup. I would not recommend it if you’re wearing heavy makeup; I would reach for a tougher balm cleanser in that case.

How to Use

I apply it to dry skin. About half-a-dime-sized amount is enough for your whole face. It’s quite easy to rinse it off, unlike many other oil cleansers. It doesn’t leave any residue.

It’s great for a double cleanse: I usually begin with the Squalane Cleanser and then finish with Caudalie’s Instant Foaming Cleanser (another gentle cleanser).

Final Thoughts

This is a great cleanser at an extremely affordable price. Considering how little you need, it should last a while. I’ll definitely be repurchasing it!
