I just binged Season 2 of Killing Eve and I have to say, I really don’t watch this show for the plot; it’s primarily the characters themselves that draw me in and make it interesting.
Of course, the main attraction is Villanelle, a very eccentric, queer assassin/psychopath with an incredible sense of style. Her clothing and costumes are a big part of the show because they’re really a big part of Villanelle’s character.
What I love about this show is that it doesn’t ever objectify Villanelle or sexualize her in the way that history has done so to “the femme fatale” (hate that term) or female assassin. You can see this in the way Villanelle walks, moves, talks, and dresses; everything down to her facial expressions is acted freely and naturally, which is amazing considering how restricted female actors often are on screen. She’s 100% genuine (as a character) and never there to fulfill a constricting, misogynistic fantasy.
Now that I’ve finished seasons 1 and 2, I wanted to go through my favorite outfits and costumes of Villanelle’s:
1.Dries van Noten Babila Brocade Suit + Doc Marten boots (Season 1)
BBC America BBC America BBC America
2.The Oxford Look with Raey Trousers + vintage shirt & tie (Season 2)

3.Alexander McQueen gown (Season 2)
4.Chloé Spring 2018 Embroidered Blazer + Isabel Marant Blouse & Silver Pants (Season 2)
BBC America WornOnTV
5.Rosie Assoulin Pink Blouse + William Vintage Skirt + Christian Lacroix vintage earrings (Season 2)

6.Alexander McQueen blazer + Anthropologie t-shirt + floral pants (Season 2)

7. Traditional dirndl + pig mask (Season 2)

I’m so glad you wrote this! I totally just binged both series’ a few weekends ago – and I love Villanelles style. You are 100% correct in the fact she is never sexualised or objectified, her sense of styles seems so natural and really suits her. What a brilliant actress!
