*Updated on June 10, 2019 because I really slept on this mask’s abilities…
Sephora: $26 CAD | $20 USD
|A creamy overnight lip mask||Using vitamLocks in moisture to give you more supple lips in the morning||Yes — comes in the original berry, vanilla (this review), apple lime, grapefruit|
Unfortunately there aren’t separate ingredient lists for each flavor, so I’m assuming that they are more or less composed of the same factors.
- Paraben and sulfate free
- Cruelty free
- Sodium hyaluronate (moisturizing)
- Ascorbyl glucoside (brightening)
- Vitamin C and glucose; breaks down to ascorbic acid which is pure Vitamin C
- UV protection (titanium dioxide)
- Alcohol (bad for dry and sensitive skin)
- Dimethicone, methicone (silicones)
- Zinc Sulfate
The ingredients aren’t particularly interesting and the only factor that really encourages healing is the sodium hyaluronate. I wish this lip mask provided more healing power for chapped, problem lips. That said, I am satisfied with the mask! Read on.

I feel like there is a little bit of a learning curve to this product. Initially, I was applying it like a lip balm, which means I wasn’t applying enough. I’d wake up with my lips feeling more parched than usual because the product had, I guess, absorbed completely.
Definitely apply more to your lips than a lip balm when using it as a mask. It comes with a spatula which I find picks up the perfect amount if you just scrape it across the top gently. Make sure you have a generous amount on your lips before bed, otherwise it may have the opposite effect. Test this out though; maybe your skin isn’t as dry as mine. Adjust as necessary.
First, this stuff smells amazing. Amazing. My favorite scents are vanilla and original berry.
After waking up, I do find that the mask has left my lips moisturized, not necessarily because of any healing properties but because it’s left a hydrating film on top. I still need to apply lip balm and other healing products through the day. I’m not sure how healing it really is, especially given the ingredients. Regardless, it feels great and makes the lips softer.
If my lips are rougher than usual and their awful texture has reappeared, the mask doesn’t really fix anything; it just makes them feel better by adding a hydrating layer. This can be extremely frustrating if you get rough texture on your lips like me; in that case, don’t expect a miracle. You’ll need something stronger with better healing properties i.e. Vitamin E. I also love using the Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask for the tougher lip troubles.
Using as a lip balm?
The Laneige lip sleeping mask actually makes a gorgeous lip balm. It’s soft and creamy, but thicker than regular balms. And oh my goodness, it looks beautiful on the lips. Seriously, it gives you the most lovely, dimensional pout.
On that note, I prefer using Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask as my daily lip balm when my lips are really rough and dry as it is a bit of a thicker and firmer product, so I find it stays put longer.
Using the Laneige lip sleeping mask as a day lip balm or gloss makes it an even more worthy purchase. There is so much in the jar, you’ll be set for night and day.
Also, expect this to last you a long time. I have had the mask for over 3 months at this point and have used it almost 3-5 times per week, yet I’ve only scratched the surface; I still have well over half of the jar left.
While this isn’t a miracle product for more intense lip conditions, it does give much needed softness and comfort through its moisturizing properties. It also looks beautiful on, and is a great choice for a lip balm if you prefer a thicker product on your lips for the day.
Thanks for reading ❤
